RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The site of the village occupied by Powhatan and his daughter Pocahontas is set to become a national park.
The Daily Press of Newport News reports (http://goo.gl/SZlpK1 ) the National Park Service has purchased the historic Werowocomoco site.
The 260-acre site sold is closed to the public and its opening could be years away.
The Werowocomoco site is believed to be where Powhatan and Pocahontas lived when English settlers first arrived in Virginia in the early 1600s. The federal government purchased the land, located in Gloucester County, in June for $7.1 million.
