Severe Thunderstorms Barrel Through DC Area

WASHINGTON — A line of severe thunderstorms moving west to east Monday afternoon brings a threat of damaging winds and torrential downpours.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the entire area until 8 p.m. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of the region until midnight.

The line of storms is expected to end around 8 p.m., except for near the Chesapeake Bay and southern Maryland, said Storm Team4 Meteorolgist Matt Ritter. All showers and thunderstorms southeast of DC are expected to end after midnight, Ritter added.

Temperatures will fall from the upper 80s into the upper 70s after the storms. Overnight will bring patchy fog and humidity will clear out, Ritter said.
