RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Richmond athletic director Keith Gill has resigned because of personal reasons.
University President Ronald A. Crutcher made the announcement Wednesday. He says a national search for Gill’s replacement will begin immediately.
Gill came to Richmond in 2012 and has overseen the expansion and enhancement of the school’s athletic facilities, including a complete renovation of the Robins Center, where the Spiders men’s and women’s basketball teams play their home games.
In a release from the school, Gill said leaving is bittersweet, “but right now my primary focus has to be with my family.”
Spiders teams won 14 conference championships during Gill’s tenure, including one in men’s lacrosse, a program started under Gill’s watch. The school’s athletic programs also compiled a 3.14 grade-point average.
