Prosecutors: Police Shooting of Man in Maryland Justified

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Prosecutors in Maryland have ruled that police were justified in shooting a man who opened fire while on a bus in Dundalk earlier this month.

Police said at the time that 35-year-old Blaine Erb jumped on the bus as he fled an armed robbery at a shopping center June 7. Police said when Erb fired at officers, police returned fire. Erb died at the scene.

Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger says prosecutors informed the police department last week that no charges would be filed against the officers who shot Erb. Baltimore County Deputy State’s Attorney Robbin S. Coffin says video footage from police and surveillance cameras show officers took appropriate action.

A police officer and a bystander suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.
