Police: Shots Fired Outside Newport News Funeral Service at Church

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Authorities say a shooting at a church funeral damaged several vehicles.

Newport News police spokesman Brandon Maynard says police responded to a shooting on July 15 at about 11:45 a.m. A caller told dispatchers that a group of men wearing black shirts began shooting at several vehicles near Mount Mariah Church. Authorities say about eight to 10 gunshots were heard.

The Daily Press reports Mount Mariah Church was holding a funeral service for the victim of a recent killing in Hampton.

No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
