Police: Man Shot Teen Trying to Break Into Car

HALETHORPE, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County Police say a man shot a teen who was trying to break into his car.

Police said in a statement Thursday that officers were called the Halethorpe area Wednesday morning for a report of a theft from a car.

Police say a 44-year-old man saw a teen breaking into his car, so he took a rifle outside and confronted him. Police say the 17-year-old boy swung a knife or screwdriver at the man and he shot the teen once. The teen fled, but was later taken into custody.

Police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter says the teen was treated for a gunshot wound to an upper extremity and he’s being held.

He says the violent crimes unit is investigating and the state’s attorney’s office will review the case.
