WASHINGTON — One man is dead after a police-involved shooting late Monday in the Montgomery Village area, officials said.
Montgomery County police said an officer was checking out a theft report near 10022 Stedwick Road and called for fire and rescue help because shots were fired.
Other officers arrived and found a man with gunshot wounds.
Fire and rescue took him to an area hospital, where he later died.
Police recovered a weapon at the scene and are gathering evidence. They are also talking to witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.
Spokesman Paul Starks told WTOP the officer involved has been with the department for five years and will be placed on paid administrative leave.
