Police: 11 Arrested in Va. Heroin Ring Bust

WASHINGTON — Authorities in Virginia and Maryland say they have dismantled a major heroin ring operating throughout the D.C. area, making nearly a dozen arrests and seizing hundreds of grams of illegal drugs.

A total of 11 residents of Northern Virginia and Prince George’s County were arrested on charges of illegal drug possession, distribution and racketeering charges, the Alexandria City Police Department announced Monday.

In addition to seizing more than 400 grams of heroin, police said they also confiscated 10 guns, several vehicles, more than 330 grams of cocaine, 19 grams of PCP, 7 pounds of marijuana and $18,000 in cash.

In a statement, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring described the drug ring as a “well-financed, well-organized trafficking operation that was putting Virginians and Virginian communities at risk.”

Herring and local authorities are expected to provide additional details about the arrests at Monday afternoon.

The arrests took place March 11, but were first announced by authorities on Monday.

A rash of heroin overdoses in Alexandria sparked the yearlong investigation, which was led by Alexandria and Virginia State Police, authorities said.

The arrests came after police served eight search warrants in several locations throughout the D.C. area, including in the city of Alexandria, plus Prince William and Fairfax counties in Virginia and Prince George’s County in Maryland.

The ages of those arrested range from 31 to 63. Here are their charges:

  • Anthony D. Terry, 57, of Dumfries, Virginia — Possession with intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to distrubute more than 100 grams of heroin
  • Robert E. Hunt, 54, of Alexandria, Virginia — Three counts of distribution of heorin
  • Gregory Taylor, 43, of Fort Washington, Maryland — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Tyrone Washington, 37, of Fort Washington, Marylnad — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Tony S. Mann, 55, of Alexandria, Virginia — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Albert B. Taylor, 60, of Alexandria, Virginia — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Tony D. Smith, 31, of Woodbridge, Virginia. — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Jaqueline D. McBride, 61, of Fairfax County, Virginia — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Richard C. Williams Jr., 63, of Alexandria, Virginia — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
  • Ronald Morton 39, of Clinton, Maryland — Racketeering and conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin
