Park Police Warn of ‘Drano Bombs' in Montgomery Co. Park

WASHINGTON — Authorities in Montgomery County have alerted the public after discovering two rudimentary homemade explosive devices along a park trail in Germantown, Maryland.

The so-called “Drano bombs” consist of water, drain cleanser and aluminum foil sealed in a 12-ounce plastic water bottle. The chemical reaction creates hydrogen gas, which can cause an explosion. (Courtesy Maryland-National Capital Park Police)

The so-called “Drano bombs” consist of water, drain cleanser and aluminum foil sealed in a 12-ounce plastic water bottle. The chemical reaction creates hydrogen gas, which can cause an explosion.

The explosive materials were found along the Clarksburg Heights Trail in Little Seneca Greenway Stream Valley Park on May 16, according to the Montgomery County division of the Maryland National Capital Park Police.

Park police officers searched the area for additional devices but did not find any others.

Authorities ask anyone who encounters any suspicious devices to stay away from them and notify park police at (301) 949-3010.
