HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — The FBI is looking into whether an organization has been submitting voter registration applications in the names of dead people.
The Daily News-Record reports (http://bit.ly/2cTlbnv) Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst confirmed in a statement Monday that the unidentified group could be charged with voter registration fraud. The FBI and Harrisonburg Police Department are investigating the case.
Garst says a family member of one of the deceased registrants alerted authorities.
In a statement, Director of Elections Deborah Logan says the case involves “a number” of registration applications.
Officials have declined to release further details into the ongoing investigation.
