BALTIMORE (AP) — A plainclothes Baltimore police detective’s vehicle was hit by a carjacked SUV, injuring the detective.
Police spokesman T.J. Smith said Tuesday at a news conference that the SUV appeared to be fleeing after a nearby officer in a marked car noticed it. He says officers were in the area after a string of robberies and burglaries.
Smith says the detective had opened the door to get out just before his unmarked vehicle was hit. He was taken to a hospital with an ankle injury. A second detective didn’t need to go to a hospital.
Smith says the 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man in the SUV are in custody and are suspects in the burglaries and robberies. He says stolen items and a replica handgun were found in the SUV.
