WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says the leaders of France and Canada expressed their condolences Tuesday to President Barack Obama for the terrorist attack in Orlando.
The White House says Obama spoke with French President Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH’ oh-LAWND’) by telephone. They have reaffirmed their shared commitment to destroying the Islamic State group and standing against the broader scourge of terrorism.
Obama also expressed sympathies for the stabbing death of an off-duty police commander and his partner in suburban Paris by a man who had declared allegiance to IS.
The White House says the president shared a similar call exchanging condolences with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Earlier Tuesday, Obama had said he wanted the people of Orlando to know that “our allies and friends all over the world” stand with them.
