Northern Virginia ALDI Stores Are Hiring

WASHINGTON — Discount grocer ALDI, with an industry reputation for good pay and benefits, is staffing up its Washington-area stores.

ALDI, with about two dozen stores in the immediate area, is holding a series of job fairs, starting with one March 21 at its store on Richmond Highway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Other job fairs are scheduled this month for its Virginia stores in Fairfax, Falls Church and Springfield.

ALDI has openings for store associates, shift managers and manager trainees. Store associates make $13.25 an hour. Shift managers earn $17.75 an hour.

ALDI says manager trainees can earn $60,000 with the opportunity to make $70,000 to $90,000 a year as a store manager.

ALDI employees who average more than 25 hours per week also are eligible for full health insurance benefits and dental coverage, and all employees can participate in the company’s 401(k) program.

ALDI is expanding in the region. It opened its newest store at 4580 Duke St. in Alexandria in February, directly across the street from Harris Teeter in the Foxchase Shopping Center.

Last month, ALDI announced a $1.6 billion nationwide plan to remodel and expand stores. It also expects to open 650 new stores across the U.S. by the end of 2018.

It currently has about 24,000 employees in the U.S.

The German-based grocer is about to face competition for the discount grocery store shopper.

Lidl, also based in Germany, will begin opening its first U.S. stores this summer, including locations in Northern Virginia.

Here are ALDI’s upcoming job fair times and locations:

  • Tuesday, March 21 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.: ALDI store at 8256 Richmond Highway, Alexandria.
  • Tuesday, March 28 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.: ALDI store at 11001 Lee Highway, Fairfax.
