No Trains to Run From Foggy Bottom to Federal Triangle This Weekend

WASHINGTON — No Metro trains will run this weekend between the Foggy Bottom and Federal Triangle stations, which serve the Blue, Orange and Silver lines.

Farragut West, McPherson Square and the lower-level platform at Metro Center will be closed. The upper-level platform at Metro Center will stay open to serve Red Line riders. (Scheduled track work should have a minimal impact on Red Line service.)

Metro expects that shuttle buses could add up to 45 minutes to trips between the closed stations. Walking to other stations to make transfers, or even walking the entire closed stretch might be a faster option for many riders. The entire walk between Federal Triangle and Foggy Bottom stations would be about 1.5 miles.

Greenbelt Station is also closed this weekend for the final days of the round-the-clock work zone there. Greenbelt is due to reopen on Monday, and the next work zone that will shut down five Orange Line stations for a month begins on Tuesday.

The weekend schedule

Both Saturday and Sunday, Silver Line trains are scheduled to run between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston, where riders will then transfer to or from Orange Line trains.

In addition to Silver Line trains, Orange Line trains between Vienna and Foggy Bottom and Blue Line trains between Franconia-Springfield and Foggy Bottom are scheduled to run every 20 minutes.

Trains will run every 15 minutes along the other stretch of the Orange Line between Federal Triangle and New Carrollton and on the Blue Line between Federal Triangle and Largo Town Center.

The last trains of the night are also scheduled to depart a few minutes earlier than usual: from Vienna to Foggy Bottom at 11:23 p.m., from New Carrollton to Federal Triangle at 11:25 p.m., and from Federal Triangle to New Carrollton at 11:49 p.m. On the Silver Line, the last train from Wiehle-Reston East to Ballston is scheduled to leave ten minutes earlier than usual, at 11 p.m.

Metro plans to install and replace ceiling tiles in the closed stations and to work on communication cables running along tunnel walls. Metro shut down the same stretch two weekends ago for additional work.

Green and Yellow line trains are also scheduled to run every 20 minutes this weekend, and Yellow Line trains are scheduled to run only between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square.
