Newly Installed School Bus Cameras Hailed as Success

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Newly installed cameras on a Virginia school district’s bus fleet have yielded an average of about one ticket per bus each day, a result school officials label a success.

WRIC-TV reports ( ) that the cameras installed on 50 Richmond Public Schools buses in April record activity coming toward the stop arm and anything that goes past the signal. Each ticket costs the driver $250, with 60 percent of the fine going to installer Force Multiplier and 40 percent going into the district’s general purpose fund.

Force Multiplier installed the cameras free of charge in return for proceeds from the fines.

Incoming interim superintendent Tommy Kranz says the remaining 200 buses will be equipped with the camera system during the summer.
