New Lawsuit Filed Over Jamestown Transmission Line Project

JAMESTOWN, Va. (AP) — A second federal lawsuit has been filed against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over its decision to grant Dominion Energy a permit for a controversial transmission line over the James River near Jamestown.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Preservation Virginia filed the lawsuit Thursday in federal court in the District of Columbia.

The groups say the Corps should have done a more thorough environmental review. A lawsuit filed last month by the National Parks Conservation Association made similar claims.

Opponents of the transmission line say it will ruin views in the historic area and harm tourism. Dominion says the project is urgently needed to ensure electric reliability in the region.

An Army Corps spokesman referred comment to the Justice Department. A Justice Department spokesman declined comment.
