WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Law Enforcement Museum is hosting a panel discussion on the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan more than 35 years ago.
Tuesday’s panel discussion is being held at the Washington Hilton, where Reagan was shot on March 30, 1981 after giving a speech.
The panelists participating in the talk are: Timothy McCarthy, a Secret Service special agent who took a bullet protecting Reagan; Danny Spriggs, a Secret Service agent protecting the president that day, and Tom Baker, the criminal assistant special agent in charge of the FBI Washington DC field office at the time of the assassination attempt.
The man who shot Reagan, John Hinckley, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the shooting and spent decades in a mental hospital. Reagan died in 2004.
Spriggs is currently the vice president of global security for The Associated Press.
