WASHINGTON — Rockville, Maryland-based MOM’s Organic Market, which marked its 30th anniversary this summer, will open its third location outside of the D.C., Virginia and Maryland area this week in downtown Philadelphia.
It is part of Philadelphia’s new City Center development at 34 S. 11th Street.
In addition to 15 stores in Maryland, Virginia and the District, MOM’s has another store in the Philadelphia suburb of Bryn Mawr, and a location in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
“We’ve gotten the warmest welcomes in Bryn Mawr and Cherry Hill,” said MOM’s founder Scott Nash. “Now we can’t wait to offer the City of Brotherly Love our first truly urban MOM’s.”
MOM”s will donate 5 percent of its Grand Opening sales to Philadelphia Orchard Project and Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
It was the first grocery store in the nation to ban plastic grocery bags, and five years later became the first retail chain to ban the sale of plastic bottled water.
MOM’s also donates more than $500,000 a year to environmental organizations.
