Miley Cyrus to Headline Capital Pride Concert

WASHINGTON – Miley Cyrus will be the headliner at the Capital Pride Concert, set for Sunday, June 11.

The bill for the show will also include the R&B/hip-hop artist Tinashe, R&B legends The Pointer Sisters (“He’s So Shy,” “Slow Hand,” “Fire”) and Australian dance music artist Vassy.

Cyrus has been an outspoken advocate of LGBTQ youth.

June Crenshaw, of the Wanda Alston Foundation, a group dedicated to helping LGBTQ youth in D.C., said in a statement that “LGBTQ youth are more than 40 percent of the homeless youth in the Nation’s Capital. This means on any given night, hundreds of LGBTQ youth are sleeping on the streets, sleeping in cars, couch surfing, or exchanging sex for a place to sleep. We are excited Miley is bringing her voice to the effort of protecting our most vulnerable youth and helping to eradicate LGBTQ youth homelessness.”

The show starts at 1 p.m. and is part of the Capital Pride Festival, which starts at noon, as does the Equality March for Unity and Pride.
