Metro Compromise Cuts Hours Every Day of the Week

WASHINGTON — Metrorail will close at 11:30 p.m. weeknights, 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights and only run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays starting in July 2017, after the Metro Board gave final approval to the changes Thursday.

A compromise meant to prevent D.C. Metro Board members from vetoing the change means the hours cuts will expire after two years, with a report due to the Metro Board midway through the closures.

The report would address the new preventive maintenance and additional inspections that General Manager Paul Wiedefeld has said could be done if the trains ran fewer hours.
