WASHINGTON — A Catonsville, Maryland, man who was arrested in Utah uses social media and comic book conventions to meet underage girls for sex, according to detectives in Virginia.
Derrick La Marr Jones, 35, has been arrested for two counts of “illegal use of a communication system to solicit with lascivious intent a minor between the age of 15 and 18,” according to a statement from officials in Loudoun County, Virginia. Detectives with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Salt Lake City Sheriff’s Office to make the arrest.
In March, a concerned family member contacted the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and reported that a young girl from Ashburn was contacting a man through social media and engaging in sexual activity with him. That man has been identified as Jones.
Jones provided transportation for the Ashburn teen to meet him in the Baltimore area, the sheriff’s office said.
He uses social media and has made contact with young girls at “multi-genre entertainment/comic book conventions.” Jones has used aliases, including Kanovski Zan-Lee Vulgen or “Kano” or “Lee,” and introduces himself as being in his late teens or early 20s.
Detectives are looking for more information about other victims who may have known or been in contact with him; they can call the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-0475.
