Maryland Trooper Hospitalized After Truck Crash

HANCOCK, Md. (AP) — A Maryland State Police trooper was injured after his cruiser was struck by a truck.

The Herald-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/2rUhKjO ) that Sgt. L. Broadwater sustained back and neck injuries in the Thursday night crash and was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he is listed in fair condition.

Broadwater was escorting an oversized tractor-trailer on Interstate 68 with Philip K. Armbrecht, who was driving a van. Police say the cruiser and van were disabled when a truck driven by Ronald Ovey Shambaugh struck them from behind. Armbrecht was taken to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, with minor injuries.

The Maryland State Police crash team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division are assisting with the investigation.
