WASHINGTON (AP) — A Maryland man has been convicted in a 2015 fatal shooting outside a Washington tavern.
WJLA-TV reports that U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips said in a statement that 44-year-old Mark Beasley of Laurel, Maryland, was convicted of first-degree murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, and related weapons offenses Wednesday in connection with the April 2015 shooting in northwest Washington.
Evidence presented in court said Beasley approached 39-year-old Darryn Conte and another man outside Takoma Station Tavern, and an argument began. Conte and the friend drove to the next block to wait for Conte’s brother and a musician who had been playing at the tavern. Beasley followed and fired shots at the car, killing Conte and wounding the friend.
Beasley will be sentenced Oct. 13.
