WASHINGTON — A man who faces charges in connection with two murders in Maryland may have other victims, police announced this week.
Christopher Scheibe, 29, of no fixed address, had been charged in the death of 24-year old Holly Smith whose body was found in Annapolis in late May.
Now, Anne Arundel County police say Scheibe has been charged in a separate murder from several years ago. Investigators say Scheibe confessed to killing Jessica Lee, 20, who was found dead in Pasadena in August 2012.
“We have reason to believe that he may be involved in other violent crimes regionally,” said Cpl. Jacklyn Davis of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Both Smith and Lee had been stabbed to death.
“As police officers, we would be neglecting our duty if we think somebody can do something twice and not do something else as well,” Davis said.
“We want to make sure that we’re not missing anything.”
Police describe Scheibe as a homeless man who traveled frequently and has ties to Southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore. They are hoping to receive tips from the public so they can learn more about where he has been and whether he has connections to any other killings.
“We are asking people to take a good look at his face, and I’m very specific when I say face and not name because he has been known to use several aliases,” said Davis.
Anyone with information about Scheibe is urged to contact police at 410-222-4700.
