Man Accused of Assaulting Woman in Silver Spring Woods Charged With Rape

WASHINGTON — A man accused of dragging a woman off a Silver Spring, Maryland, sidewalk and into a wooded area where he sexually assaulted her has been arrested.

Antonio Devon Kamara, 33, has been charged with rape, assault and robbery. He is being held without bond.

Montgomery County police said they received a 911 call about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from a resident of the 13800 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring who told the dispatcher a woman had flagged him down saying she had been raped.

The woman told officers she was talking on her cellphone and walking on the sidewalk on Castle Boulevard, near Columbia Pike, when a man grabbed her from behind, pushed her into a wooded area and raped her, police said.

The woman told police she began screaming for help, but the man threatened to kill her if she didn’t remain quiet. She also told officers he took money from her purse.

Using the woman’s description, detectives with Special Victims Investigations later identified Kamara walking in the same area and chased him into a wooded area after he fled on foot before he was taken into custody. The woman identified Kamara as the man who assaulted her.

Kamara has been charged with first- and second-degree rape, first- and second-degree assault and robbery.
