Judge Allows Sale of Washington Nursing Home

WASHINGTON (AP) — A judge has decided to allow the sale of a Washington nursing home despite opponents arguing that that the sale violates a law requiring landlords to give tenants rights of first refusal before selling the property.

The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/2dEPHfJ ) reports that District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Robert Rigsby ruled that the Washington Home is not subject to that law because nursing facilities are fundamentally different than housing accommodations.

Washington Home CEO Tim Cox says the nursing home will continue to care for the 24 residents currently at the facility and will work to safely discharge them into other facilities.

The nursing home is scheduled to close on Dec. 15. It will be sold to Sidwell Friends School for $32.5 million.
