Jim Vance's Career, Impact Celebrated in NBC Washington Special

WASHINGTON — NBC Washington will reflect on the life and legacy of longtime anchor and D.C. icon Jim Vance during a special at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“A Tribute to Jim Vance” will feature footage of the late journalist throughout his 48-year career, including his favorite stories, his proudest moments and his own memories of the early days. Vance’s longtime colleagues and viewers will also reflect on his impact.

Vance died last week after a brief battle with cancer. He was 75.

Doreen Gentzler will anchor the special from the NBC Washington studio, which is affectionately referred to as “The House that Vance Built.”

“Doreen, whose name has been linked to Jim’s during their 28 years together, will share some of her favorite memories, including some from their longtime friendship,” said Matt Glassman, assistant news director at NBC Washington.

The special will air again at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
