Inmate Hurt in Attack in Prison Recreational Yard

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate was injured in an attack in a recreation yard at a state prison in western Maryland.

The Herald-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/2hbs5Cw ) that the attack took place Thursday afternoon at Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown.

Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesman Gerard Shields says three people assaulted the inmate, who was serving 13 years for robbery. Shields says the victim suffered a cut to his neck that didn’t appear to be life-threatening. He says two of the assailants were apprehended and three homemade weapons were recovered.
