Injured Pregnant Woman Was Doused With Gas, Set on Fire, Court Records Say

WASHINGTON — A Capital Heights woman was critically injured after her boyfriend poured gasoline on her and then set the pregnant woman on fire last week, court records said.

Laquinn D. Phillips, 34, of D.C., was arrested within hours of dousing his girlfriend and then setting her on fire, which also damaged the woman’s apartment. He is charged with attempted murder, arson, assault, reckless endangerment and property destruction.

Ablaze, his girlfriend fled from the apartment building, spreading the fire as she went. She suffered severe burns to a large percentage of her body, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The woman was about 8 months pregnant, court records said. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors delivered her baby. She and the child were in critical condition.
