High-speed Chase Suspect Wanted for Stabbing DC Law Officer

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A man who led authorities on a high-speed chase through two North Carolina counties is also accused of stabbing a police officer in the neck while shoplifting in Washington, D.C.

The State Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Klein Andrew Lawrence of Hyattsville, Maryland, was in custody after weaving through morning rush-hour traffic at nearly 110 mph. A list of charges includes speeding to elude a law officer, cocaine possession and hit and run.

State Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Jeff Gordon says in an email Lawrence was wanted on warrants filed by police in the nation’s capital accusing him of stabbing an officer who confronted him about stealing from a grocery store. Lawrence is also wanted on charges of strong-arm robbery in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

His first court appearance is Wednesday.
