Hate-based Graffiti Found on 2 Fairfax Churches

WASHINGTON — A pair of churches in Fairfax are cleaning up after what police are calling “bias-motivated graffiti” was discovered Tuesday morning.

Anti-religious statements and symbols were found on the exteriors of the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia and the United Church of Christ Tuesday morning, said Officer Tawny Wright with Fairfax County police. Both are within a few blocks of each other on Little River Turnpike in Fairfax.

The messages expressed hate and bias and were tailored toward each denomination.

Wright said police believe both incidents happened sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, and police are trying to determine if the same person or people is responsible for both incidents.

Passover, a Jewish holiday, was Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 703-691-2131.
