Former State Delegate James McClellan Dies; Served 16 Years

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Western Maryland has lost a former state delegate who played a large role in Frederick and Washington County politics from the 1970s through the 1990s.

Jane McClellan said Monday that her 90-year-old father-in-law James “Doc” McClellan died Saturday at a retirement community near Frederick. She says she doesn’t know the cause of death, but she says his health had been declining for some time.

The Frederick veterinarian was a Democrat who represented parts of Frederick and Washington counties in the House of Delegates from his election in 1978 until he retired in 1994.

He served four years as a Frederick city alderman before running for state office. He also served two terms on the Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
