Flooding Closes Cleveland Park Metro Station (Photos)

WASHINGTON – Metro’s Cleveland Park station closed Tuesday evening after storms dumped inches of rain and caused flooding.

Metro tweeted around 7 p.m. that trains were temporarily bypassing the Red Line’s Cleveland Park station because of the escalator outage and flooding. Metro said shuttle buses were available.

Passengers tweeted images of water cascading down the station’s steps and flooding part of its upper platform.

Powerful thunderstorms swept through the D.C. area Tuesday afternoon and evening, leaving a path of hail and wind damage, power outages and flooding.
