WASHINGTON — A 2-year-old boy was killed and his 5-year-old brother was seriously injured after a massive tree fell on them Thursday evening in La Plata, Maryland, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
It happened shortly after 6 p.m. at a home in the 8900 block of Turkey Hill Road. The boys’ father had been cutting the tree down in their backyard.
The children were reportedly about 50 feet away from their father when it fell.
They were flown to a hospital where the 2-year-old died.
