Fallen Tree Slices Through Howard County Home Amid Storms

WASHINGTON — A large tree sliced through a house during storms Tuesday afternoon in Howard County, Maryland.

The house is on Burntwoods Road in Glenelg, Maryland, across from Glenelg High School.

The homeowner, Todd Heisig, said he was at work at around 3 p.m. when he got a call from his two children, who were at home when the tree fell through the house. All that mattered to him was that both of his children, ages 18 and 21, were safe, he said.

“Two of my kids were in there, and they walked out,” he said. “That’s all that’s going through my mind.”

Heisig said his insurance had been helpful so far, and hotel arrangements had been made.

“It’s humbling to say the least,” he said. “We’ll see what tomorrow brings.”

A powerful storm cell swept through the entire region Tuesday, causing power outages, intense rain and lightning and threatening to bring damaging winds, flooding and a chance for small tornadoes.
