Daphne was walking near the dog park in Del Ray with her dog-sitter when the shooting during baseball practice for the Congressional Baseball Game started. Daphne fled from the sound of the gunshots.

Images of the missing dog went viral on social media.

Alexandria Police say she was found at 1:30 a.m., and they brought her to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, which was helping to find the dog.

“Daphne was so happy to see her pet sitter,” said Abby Hubbard, the League’s deputy director. “Clearly they have a bond.”

The shooting began shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, sending a total of seven people to the hospital, including two Capitol Police officers, a congressional aide and House GOP Whip Steve Scalise.

The FBI identified the shooter as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, of Belleville, Illinois. He was fatally wounded in a firefight with police.
