BALTIMORE (AP) — A western Maryland real-estate developer has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in a bank-fraud scheme that cost financial institutions more than $2.7 million.
Fifty-two-year-old Samuel VanSickle of Accident was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. He also was ordered to repay the banks for their losses.
VanSickle and co-defendant Louis Strosnider both pleaded guilty to bank-fraud conspiracy for fraudulently obtaining loans for two property deals in the Deep Creek Lake resort area and one near Cheat Lake, West Virginia.
Strosnider is awaiting sentencing.
Oakland attorney Angela Blythe was sentenced to one year in prison in December for her role in the scheme. A jury convicted her in October of bank fraud, conspiracy and making false statements about property deals.
