DC Public Schools Chancellor Announces Departure

WASHINGTON — The leader of D.C. Public Schools announced Wednesday that she is stepping down from the role.

On Wednesday, D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced she is leaving the job. She will be leaving her role on Sept. 30, 2016.

Mayor Muriel Bowser thanked Henderson for her service, and says she didn’t ask her to step down.

Henderson took over for chancellor Michelle Rhee, who drew national attention for her takeover of the school system in 2010.
