WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawmakers in the District of Columbia are expected to vote on a bill that will provide up to eight weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child. If adopted, it would be one of the nation’s most generous paid family leave programs.
The D.C. Council voted earlier this month 11-to-2 to approve the plan. A vote Tuesday could send the proposal to the mayor. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has not said whether she would sign the bill, but the council’s vote from earlier in December would be veto-proof if it holds.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/2hks1jq ) reports that two council members are proposing dramatic revisions to the bill. The paper says the revisions would guarantee the same amount of paid leave but change how it’s paid for.
