HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A man and woman charged with killing her 81-year-old great-aunt are back in Maryland and being held without bail.
The Herald-Mail (http://bit.ly/1V2gBMI ) reports that 43-year-old Jerry Smith of Hagerstown and 39-year-old Crystal Stanley of Needmore, Pennsylvania, had a bond review hearing Friday in Hagerstown. It was their first Maryland court appearance since their arrest May 29 in Kingman, Arizona.
Each is charged with first-degree murder, robbery and other offenses in the slaying of Margaret Rose McAllister of Hancock. She was found dead in her home May 20 with her throat slashed, her wrists and ankles bound, and multiple stab wounds to her chest and shoulder.
Assistant Public Defender Brian Hutchison didn’t argue against the state’s proposal that the pair be held without bond. Preliminary hearings are set for July 13.
