Coast Guard Rescues Man in Chesapeake Bay

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued a man after he fell overboard into the Chesapeake Bay.

Media outlets report that watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Milford Haven in Hudgins received a call Wednesday from Lancaster County Dispatch saying a woman saw her husband fall overboard their 33-foot boat. The woman told dispatchers she threw her husband a life jacket before he floated away.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast. A Response Boat-Small crew responded from Station Milford Haven and a Jayhawk helicopter crew responded from Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, along with other response teams.

The Coast Guard RBS crew found the man at about 2 p.m. and pulled him from the water. Medics evaluated the man and returned him to his boat.
