Coast Guard: 3 Rescued After Helicopter Crash in Virginia

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — The Coast Guard says a helicopter crashed in Virginia’s James River and three people on board were rescued.

John Miller is a spokesman for the Coast Guard’s 5th District. He said the helicopter went down near the James River Bridge on Tuesday morning. He said three people were rescued by a nearby civilian vessel.

Miller couldn’t provide any information about the condition of the people on board. He also didn’t have any details about the helicopter or what caused it to crash.

The Virginian-Pilot reported that it was a Navy helicopter, but that couldn’t be immediately confirmed.

Miller said the Coast Guard is sending a small boat out to the area to assess the situation.
