Boy, 7, Left Alone on Washington School Bus

WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say a second-grade student was left on his school bus and pried the bus door open to get out more than an hour later.

Arnise Grinage says her 7-year-old son Antonio Grinage apparently fell asleep on his bus ride to The Children’s Guild D.C. Public Charter School on Monday morning and woke up to find the bus empty.

After the boy forced his way outside, Arnise Grinage says a passer-by noticed her son and walked him to the northeastern Washington school.

District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education spokesman Fred Lewis says the office’s Department of Transportation is investigating the incident.

The department’s policy is for bus drivers to walk up and down the aisles of their buses to check for riders before leaving the bus.
