Botetourt Approves Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Program

FINCASTLE, Va. (AP) — The Botetourt County school board has approved an advanced manufacturing pilot program for high school students.

The Roanoke Times reports (http://bit.ly/2reFU6V ) the board has an agreement with Virginia Western Community College to offer “mechatronics” courses at the Botetourt Technical Education Center.

Mechatronics is a field that uses mechanical, electrical and computer engineering skills required for some advanced manufacturing.

The pilot program was spurred in part by Italian-based Eldor Corp.’s plans to open a new automotive parts production and distribution facility in the area. The company plans to create 350 new jobs in advanced manufacturing.
