Baltimore Unveils New School Under 21st Century Program

BALTIMORE (AP) — The first building rebuilt through a $1 billion plan to modernize or rebuild aging public schools in a Maryland city has been unveiled.

News outlets report the newly constructed Fort Worthington Elementary and Middle School in Baltimore was unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday. The building was constructed under an initiative known as the 21st Century School Construction and Revitalization Program.

Maryland State Senator Nathaniel McFadden says the plan had universal support because it is important to prepare the next generation to be successful. The building features a media studio, technology lab, efficient lighting and several other state-of-the-art amenities.

Between 23 and 28 schools are in line for renovations under the initiative. The second renovated building in the plan is Frederick Elementary School, which will host their ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday.
