TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County school officials are planning to revisit a policy in which dozens of schools without air-conditioning have already had to close for two days this school year.
The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/2bxWPwt ) reports the school board is expected Tuesday to revise the policy which forced the closure of 37 schools for a second day Monday.
The current policy requires the district to close the non-air-conditioned schools if the heat index is forecast to reach 90 at any time during the school day. School board member Marisol Johnson says she’ll propose cancelling classes only when the heat index is forecast to reach 90 degrees by 11 a.m.
Johnson says she expects the board to vote to have the proposed change take effect immediately so further closures can be avoided.
