Baltimore Councilwoman Injured in Carjacking

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Police say a City Councilwoman who is retiring next week after serving nearly 40 years was injured during a carjacking in a garage in Federal Hill.

Detective Jeremy Silbert said by phone that Rochelle “Rikki” Spector was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the crime about 10:15 a.m. Friday.

Officers say Spector, who is 80 and has great-grandchildren, was walking to her car in a garage in a condo building. Police say two youths assaulted her, threw her on the ground and drove off in her car.

Silbert said say the youths could not drive out of the garage because of a security gate. Two employees held one of the youths until police arrived.

The 15-year-old youth is in custody. The second suspect is at large.
