ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Anne Arundel Medical Center has threatened to drop the region’s largest health insurer in a disagreement over fee reimbursement.
The Capital Gazette reported Wednesday that AAMC sent CareFirst a letter July 14 warning of contract termination Sept. 30 if an agreement isn’t reached. The health system would become an out-of-network provider for CareFirst customers, including thousands of government employees and public school teachers.
CareFirst CEO Chet Burrell told the Capital Gazette on Thursday that a recent reduction in fee payments to the hospital is $1 million, out of an annual payment of $200 million. He said the hospital countered with a list of requests adding up to a $13 million increase in professional fees, which AAMC CEO Victoria Bayless denied. Bayless declined to provide her own set of numbers.
