RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Eight teachers are in the running to become Virginia’s 2017 Teacher of the Year.
Education officials say the eight have been selected Regional Teachers of the Year and will now compete for the state title.
The winner will be named Oct. 17 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
The finalists are: Carolyn Kleinert, a Spanish teacher at Freedom Middle; Louise Thornton, a government teacher at Prince George High; Toney McNair Jr., a music teacher at Indian River Middle; Heidi Trude, a French teacher at Skyline High; Crystal DeLong, a social studies teacher at Liberty High; Jason Ince, an agricultural education teacher at Chatham High; Beth Shell, an agricultural education teacher at Lee County Career and Technical Center; and Katie McCann, a language arts and reading teacher at Appomattox Elementary.
