NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Authorities say four children who drifted away from the shore without lifejackets in Virginia were rescued by the Coast Guard and local fire department.
The Coast Guard says the children drifted away from the shore off Ocean View Beach on Friday. It says officials with the Norfolk Fire Department rescued three of the four children before a Coast Guard crew arrived.
When the crew got there, they found a Norfolk police officer in the water trying to rescue the fourth child and her stepfather, who went in the water after her. The three were then pulled from the water.
The Coast Guard says the girl and her stepfather were taken to local emergency responders.
